It’s a well-known fact that dogs need a wide space so that they can run around as much as they want. This is especially true for dogs whose masters are not always around to walk them outside. Leave them in a cramped space, and they will find other ways to entertain themselves, and it’s often not pretty.
Dogs that stay couped up at home tend to get very restless. They will likely try to divert themselves by chewing on your beloved footwear or will render some of your furniture unsightly or useless. By the time you arrive from work, they will have made a mess of your entire place.
Tying them up for extended periods of time is not healthy. Hiring your next door neighbor to walk your dog on a daily basis will only work if you have a way to ensure accountability. Besides, seeing your dog enjoy its freedom, running around frantically and chasing nobody in particular, is its own reward.
This is exactly what they saw when people from the organization Dogs Deserve Better decided to take two of their charges to a spacious park not too far away from the premises. The dogs couldn’t believe that their chains were finally set loose. They seemed a little skeptical at first but quickly warmed up to the idea that they were free to run around.
Treats couldn’t have stopped either of the dogs from thoroughly enjoying their new-found freedom. They ran like they were playing catch with one of the people they were with, except no one actually threw a ball. The team members that brought them there were more than happy to sit back and let them do their thing, utterly entertained by the display of pure joy and energy.
Let’s hope the habit of bringing them somewhere to play and run, on a regular basis, never becomes a thing of the past.
